Anti-aging is top of mind the older we get. It’s naturally unavoidable, but there are certain routines we can implement now that will help slow down the aging process. Here are some easy ways to keep your skin fresh and youthful!
Drink half your weight in ounces of water daily.
I feel like this is a given, but we should be drinking half our body weight in ounces of water a day. Water is not only great for our skin, but it’s great for weight loss. Water will keep your skin hydrated while flushing out all the toxins in your body.
Maintain a healthy diet and avoid processed food.
They always say “you are what you eat,” and it is true. Filling up your body with junk is going to make your skin look like junk. Consuming processed foods has the same effects as smoking cigarettes. They both damage the collagen in your skin and make you look older.
Avoid caffeine or alcohol consumption.
Or at least try to keep it to a minimum. Trust me, I know it’s hard; I am a full blown coffee addict, but alcohol and caffeinated products can cause dehydration in your skin.
Being honest, we are going to continue to drink coffee and alcohol anyway, so the best thing to do is drink a glass of water with every caffeinated or alcoholic beverage you consume. That too can be hard, but it’s better than not drinking coffee.
Avoid direct exposure to the sun and make sure you always apply sunscreen.
Make sure you are using sunscreen every-single-day, ladies. Our skin should not be unprotected and exposed bare to the sun’s rays. Not protecting your skin can cause pre-maturing aging (duh) and other skin related problems like cancer. Make sure you are using SPF higher than 15 and re-apply it every two hours if you’re at the beach or in the sun.
Working out regularly is great for many reasons. Let’s face it; we won’t be able to eat whatever we want to forever. If you start exercising now, it will be easier to maintain your body and weight when you get older.
When you work out, you give your skin a natural glow due to lowered stress levels. It’s a natural mood booster that makes you happy and happier people age gracefully. 😉
Get enough sleep.
Not getting enough quality sleep will make your skin look older and tired. I know life can get in the way, and you’ll “sleep when you’re dead,” but having that extra hour of productivity isn’t worth it. Not getting enough quality sleep can lead to depression, anxiety, and irritability, which will continue to cause sleep deprivation. Get your sleep, ladies!
Live by these tips, and you’ll live a healthier and happier life while slowing down that little thing we call the aging process. Do you already implement these in your daily routines?
